Let's face it. We all mess up sometimes. We make assumptions and blurt out things we later realize were untrue, hurtful, or inappropriate. It happens. We are human. But that doesn't mean we don't have to take accountability for our mistakes.
Ownership is so powerful. Acknowledging mistakes and communicating regret go such a long way. Sincerity is key. Admitting we were in the wrong doesn't make us weak. Rather, it's courageous and honest work, because we communicate and conduct ourselves with integrity.
Taking responsibility for our actions is a skill that will improve your relationships greatly. Plus, we will ultimately respect ourselves more when we align with our conscience. In order to maintain trust, understanding and emotional safety in our relationships, it's all about the repair-work.
Mistakes are opportunities to learn, and learning to apologize is a start.
